Safer Internet day was celebrated on February 9, 2011, and a Eurostat ICT survey, published before Safer Internet Day, showed parents still underestimate the potential risks of children’s use of the internet.
European Commission Initiatives.
The European Commission announced that it will increase talks with the ICT industry and children's organisations to encourage the design of safer products to help keep children safe online. The Commission will be reviewing the Recommendation on Minors set up in 2006. Safer Internet Day is being marked in more than 65 countries around the world under the slogan "Internet is more than a game, it's your life!".
